LET'S GET READING TO BEIJING...

 

 

YOUR TASK:

 

This term we celebrate Book Week along with the Olympics, so your Library task this term combines the two into a READING OLYMPICS. You will be reading all the way from Brisbane to Beijing and to complete your journey you need to earn the kilometres to help you reach your destination.

The total distance you will need to travel is 8299 kilometres.

 

 

The Reading Olympics will work like this:

 

• Glue your world map and your reading log into your Information Literacy books.

 

• Label Australia, Brisbane, China and Beijing. Draw a line connecting the two cities.

 

• Make a list of the books you would like to read this term. These can be Fiction, Series or Non-Fiction books and can be from the school, town or your home libraries. 

 

• Begin reading. 

 

• All the books that you finish reading must be sighted by Mrs Gardiner. She may also ask you some questions about the book.

 

• For every book you complete, you will get a medal for the value of that book from Mrs Gardiner. She will then stamp your reading log.

 

• To receive a bronze or silver medal the books must be at your reading level. Advanced and challenging books will earn you a gold medal.

 

• Gold medal = 1000km, Silver medal = 500km and Bronze medal = 100km

 

• Glue the medal onto the page next to your map.

 

• To earn extra kilometres and more medals, answer the bonus Olympic questions and tasks listed on this page each week or

 

• Follow the 'Reading Highway' around the Library and locate the short-listed book activities to complete on the road signs.

Everyone who reaches Beijing will receive a special Olympic Certificate and Commemorative Medal.
